Show from the Week of 1/28/2006

Satoshi Tomiie
Satoshi's music career began at an early age when his parents encouraged him to study the piano. He trained for an admirable ten years, developing a distinct passion for Jazz. Soon after the sound of Hip Hop provoked him to not only form his own band but also to start his foray into DJ'ing and production. Then came house as Satoshi became fascinated by the early Chicago mix-tapes he was hearing. A Japanese cosmetic company asked Satoshi to produce a track for their forthcoming promo parties where the legendary DJ Frankie Knuckles was performing. Knuckles saw the potential in Satoshi's music and asked if he was interested in collaborating. The final result of their partnership was "Tears", a defining moment in vocal house and a song now commonly regarded as an all time classic. Satoshi soon took the leap and moved to New York. Since his seminal hit "Tears" with Knuckles back in 1989, he has gone on to become a major part of the acclaimed Def Mix crew. Tomiie has remixed and worked with the likes of Photek, Kosheen, Simply Red, David Bowie, U2, Mariah Carey, and Misia (Japan's #1 R&B artist), just to name a few. In 2000 Satoshi wrote and produced his debut album for Sony entitled "Full Lick" featuring performances by Kelli Ali, former front woman for the Sneaker Pimps, Diane Charlemagne, Robert Owens and others. The album has been met with critical acclaim by his fans and the press with each single enjoying top ten dance chart success. "Up in Flames", garnered a number one dance hit in the UK and included mixes from John Digweed. In the US, "Up in Flames" and "Darkness" established Satoshi's presence in the alternative music scene as well as the dance music scene. The Global Underground compilation mixed by John Digweed also featured "Love in Traffic" the most recognizable single from "Full Lick" in addition to three other "Satoshi" productions/ remixes. In 2001, Satoshi Tomiie launched his own label "SAW.RECORDINGS". The word SAW comes from "SAW is one of the names of the sound wave (Sine, Square, Triangle and so on). These are used by various kinds of electronic music producers regardless of the style; most of them use and tweak these waveforms to compose music. Regardless of the style, SAW.RECORDINGS would like to introduce quality music to the music scene. We also would like to be a tool for DJ's (as SAW)." states Tomiie. It was Satoshi's desire to create a platform from which he would be able to showcase ideas and creativity that are more experimental. SAWÕs first single release "Paranoize" by Bipath caused major excitement from DJ's worldwide. Follow up singles, Madam "Penetration" and TomiieÕs own "Virus" gave SAW world recognition. 2002 has brought forth singles and EPÕs from the likes of Akadoma, Jerry Bonham and Tigerhook, with a debut production from the remix team Gabriel & Dresden entitled "Lament" at the end of the year TomiieÕs Saw label is forging ahead. 2003 brings Echomen "Perpetual" the first vocally driven record for the Label. Tomiie's ongoing philosophy to push the envelope and expose new talents has assisted in the launch of such new producer / dj"s as Trendroids and Lexicon Avenue. If SAW.RECORDINGS is an example of the direction that Satoshi is heading in, he is acknowledging the changes in the dance music scene, thus shifting what House music is. House music never stops evolving and expanding its borders and Satoshi Tomiie is in the forefront of this movement. Satoshi is the first American based DJ to be asked to record a NuBreed album (#6) for International label Global Underground. Nubreed is known for only working with the leading cutting edge DJ's. With a world tour under way, Tomiie launched the North American leg with a Spundae party in San Francisco and continued traveling throughout the USA, Europe, of South America, Asia, and Australia. His Nubreed album is the fastest and highest selling Nubreed album to date. Receiving the highest honor as a DJ, in December Satoshi Tomiie was voted by the public into the #30 spot of the WorldÕs Top 100 DJ List. Satoshi is also finding International recognition now as a Label owner besides his proven talents as a DJ, Producer / Artist and Musician. 2003 Satoshi has again launched his world tour on the west coast of the United States and will be touring well into the fall. He released Satoshi Tomiie presents Ice entitled "Scandal in New York" and has just completed a DJ Mix compilation titled UNDULATION 1. A collaboration with Label Manager and DJ Hector Romero that is releasing with a tour in October.

InBetweenDJs
Inbetween DJs are Paul Mcguinness/Paul Bugby/Dave Coates who where all born and brought up in Liverpool Merseyside area, Paul Mcguinness was once half of the outfit formerly known as ‘Delayed Reactions' along side Dave Coates (the third Inbetween Dj) they decided on a change of name because of their ever changing style of dj set. Inbetween Dj's are mostly House based djs/producers who sometimes throw in anything from Tech House, Breaks, to elements of Progressive with a thick helping of Tribalism to crack open any dance floor but always keeping the underground aspect. Paul Mcguinness has been djing for the total sum of 10 years collectively (and is now the tender age of 30) and has a massive range of influences spreading from early Disco, Electro, Hip Hop, Funk, Rave and the love of his life the huge ‘Acid House' movement of which you can hear in his choice of house cuts. Paul was heavily influenced by the sounds of ‘Cream in Liverpool' back in 94 - 96 hearing such dj's as Andrew Weatherall, Carl Cox and Paul Bleasdale and lapping up the future in Dance Music played by the masters, and soon after that deciding that was his dream also to be behind a pair of turntables and soon after in a studio. Dave started djing out live in 98 along side Paul Mcguinness. They started out putting on some small nights in Chester and Liverpool like the early kingsized parties in the City Bar Chester and the Obscure Funk nights in melo melo. Like Paul mcguinness dave has a massive range of influences again ranging from Disco, Hip Hop and funk. Dave introduction to house came at a tender age of 10 when he started listening to early acid house tapes of his brother and his friends then throughout his teens dave was influenced by djs such as Andrew Weatherall , Sasha, Billy Nasty and Justin Robertson . Soon as dave started hearing these djs live in clubs like the hacienda, basics, and Cream he decided to get behind a pair of wheels of steel and like paul mcguinness soon after the studio. All three Inbetween DJs have djed all over the UK mixing up their jackin beats/funky rhythm's and are now being invited to play on an International scale in such places as Chicago, New York, Detroit and this year Ibiza all because of their funky UK/Us sounds that people just can't help but dance to. They have a radio show on ‘Halton Fm' ‘Disfunktional Dance Show' twice a year (only a 28 day license) this is a local station in the Uk which Paul Mcguinness, Paul Bugby and Dave Coates) do for free of charge as a gift back to their community and to also help up and coming djs/producers from the Uk get into the underground side of house music) this show is now 4 years strong having had such guest mixes from Layo & Bushwacka, DJ Sneak, Tom Stephan, Miles Holloway and Greg Vickers with a whole host to come in October. It was through presenting this show that got Paul Mcguinness/Dave Coates a one hour mix on Piccadilly Key 103 in Manchester Uk on the ‘All Back To Our House Show' of which had such big name guests dj's as Erick Morillo, Sasha amongst others.. And regularly had a massive listening audience of around 50,000 people around the world. Also they have a regular slots on www.djsourceradio.co.uk (check the website for details) playing some house flavors and future productions to a world wide audience over the internet along with also having a regular slot on www.vivacity.cz Prague radio. Paul Bugby is a 23 year old dj/producer from Runcorn and has been making music for 12 years now and is a future star of studio/production with numerous different sound honors to his name this guy really knows his way round a studio and has now mastered the art of djing, and has also and has had his first tune released last year called ‘Wake Up' (Dirty Blue Records UK) its tech house monster being played by such names as Pete Tong, Lottie,Yousef and Sander Kleinenberg all over the globe. So this guy really is making a name for himself as a producer definitely one to watch in 2005. Their ep Inbetween DJs - Animal Jazz Volume 1 (Wallshaker Records) written and produced by (Paul Bugby/Paul Mcguinness/Dave Coates) has created a real buzz amongst a whole host of big name dj/producers right across the globe including... Aaron Carl (Wallshaker Records Detroit), Dj Heather (Classic,20/20) John Larner (Nightshift Records, Gallery), DJ Alena (Igloo), Phil Weeks (Robsoul), Honey Dijon (Peaches), James Curd (Green keepers), Paul Woolford (20/20, Robsoul), Nic Fanciulli (Radio 1) and Jacob (Music for Freaks)...the ep is being heard at such clubs as Circus, Chibuku, Back to Basics, Stylus, The Bomb in the Uk to more U.S based club/bars like 'Cloud 9' and 'Dotbleep' in Chicago. Future events.. they have a tour of the U.S in the pipeline to promote the ep and gigs over in Prague(for vivacity.cz) as well as London, Leeds, Manchester so watch this space for more information real soon. Future Productions - Inbetween DJs - Animal Jazz Vol 1 is now released on Wall shaker Records (Detroit Aaron Carl's label) also there is a DJ Alena remix of 'Pass The Buzzard' (which has just bin licenced to Dj Dahota's (Chicago/Canada) new mix cd which is to be sold all over the Us/Uk along with some new Inbetween DJs tracks - 'Toastie Beats Vol 1' which is due to get a release on their own up and coming label ‘Disco Revolt' due out in the fall of 2005. So the future looks bright for ‘Inbetween DJs' so expect some crazy House cuts, from the scouse lads... and they say - "We just love our music and Djing, we try to do this without being arrogant or ignorant and we give respect to people who give respect to us... and don't claim to be any form of demi gods"
